We all face trying times in our lives, whether disappointments, heartaches, or sickness. That’s where Higher Ground’s Pastoral Care Ministry makes a difference. Our ultimate goal is to see each person we visit come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, and come into a personal relationship with Him.
The aspects of this Ministry are:
Hospital visits are made regularly by our Minister of Pastoral Care, as well as Deacons and other volunteers.
These visits are a time of encouragement to the patients, and always include a time of prayer for God’s healing touch.
We are thankful for the Lord giving Doctors and caregivers the knowledge to treat our illnesses, but realize that God is the Great Physician, and nothing is beyond His power to heal!
Daily Prayer Sheet:
Each day, Higher Ground sends out a Prayer Sheet with the names of those requesting prayer. Those are listed who are hospitalized, sick, or needing prayer for various needs.
On Friday’s the Nursing Home and Shut-in list is also included. Higher Ground sincerely believes that prayer makes a difference, and this a way to keep those needing in prayer in the forefront.
To receive the daily Prayer Sheet, you may request it by e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org or call the church office at 423-245-3141.
Telephone / Prayer Card Ministry
We have those in our church who may not be able to personally make a visit, but take the time to call our shut-ins (telephone numbers are listed each Friday on the Prayer Sheet) or send cards to Nursing Home residents. These address are available also on Friday’s Prayer Sheet. We’ve heard shut-in’s say, “I just sit and wait for the phone to ring.” What an encouragement and joy it is for them to know that someone is thinking and praying for them, enough to send a card or make a simple phone call.
There is a clear command in the Bible to care for the widow and the orphan, and to serve the least and the lost. Through the Nursing Home Ministry, we are able to fulfill the Lord’s command, and have opportunities for families to serve together. Each week, a service is held at a local Nursing Home, with music and a lesson or sermon, providing encouragement to not only the residents, but also caregivers. In addition to this, personal visits are made by Nursing Home Teams and individuals from Higher Ground who have a burden for those who are bedridden who may not be able to get to attend the services.
There are those who are able to be independent to stay by themselves, or with family members, and Higher Ground has Visitation Teams and individuals who visit these Shut-ins. The response from those who visit are – “we went to be a blessing to the shut-in, but in turn they were a blessing to us!” During a typical visit, there is a sense of the Lord’s presence as scripture and testimony are shared. The knowledge and experiences of these older folk are priceless, and many of the stories they share will be carried on for generations!
Higher Ground’s Grief Ministry comes alongside those who have lost a loved one to encourage, pray with, and provide comfort during this difficult time. The Pastor and Staff stand ready to console those in need, and follow-up as the needs arise.
“I was hungry, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was sick, and ye visited me…. Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto Me.” Matthew 25
